John Ball Zoo members enjoy unlimited free admission to visit more than 2,000 animals who call the Zoo home. In addition, members receive free or reduced admission to over 150 Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited institutions across North America, discounts and early registration for John Ball Zoo camps, classes, and birthday parties, plus exclusive members-only access to special events.

In the new year, John Ball Zoo members will also receive early access to purchase tickets for our popular Grand Rapids Lantern Festival event running April 10 to June 16, 2024! General admission tickets will be available starting February 5, but members will be able to purchase their discounted tickets beginning January 8!

For over 50 years, John Ball Zoo has taught Michigan’s next generation of environmentalists, explorers and scientists. Educating young people about wildlife and wild places plants the seeds of a life-long passion for nature. GRAND RAPIDS LANTERN FESTIVAL

April 10 – June 16
Wednesday – Sunday | 7:30 pm – 11:30 pm
Timed tickets are sold every 30 minutes. Last entry at 10:30 pm.
*Members receive early access to Lantern Festival Tickets starting January 8th.

Did you know that you can skip the line for tickets?

Purchase your tickets online or have your membership card ready and go straight to the entrance gate!

*The gate stops admitting visitors 30 minutes prior to Zoo closing time. 

We recommend purchasing your tickets online prior to arrival. This will make your entry quicker and easier by not having to visit the ticket window first to purchase a ticket before entering the Zoo.

You can upgrade your general admission ticket purchase to a year-long membership. Along with many great add-on benefits, a family membership pays for itself in just two visits and provides access to the Zoo for a year!
